Alaina Pompa Artist Statment

My work begins with attention. I paint ordinary subjects such as houseplants, still lifes, and landscapes not as symbols, but as companions. These are the things that shape our days whether we notice them or not.

I am drawn to moments that ask us to slow down. The weight of a piece of fruit on a table, the presence of a plant in a room, and the way light settles across land we pass every day. Through oil paint and mixed media, I work slowly and deliberately, allowing each piece to hold the time it took to make it.

Painting is a way for me to understand my place within the natural world, not as something separate from it, but as part of a shared system of care, attention, and change. My hope is that these paintings offer viewers a moment of recognition, a sense that we are sharing the same time and space, even briefly, and that within that shared moment something gentle and meaningful can take root.
