Collection: Almost Salsa

My Almost Salsa collection was inspired by a day chopping up some homemade salsa. As I prepared the vegetables, I couldn’t help but admire their shapes and colors, and it got me thinking about how things come together. After all, salsa is rarely a solo experience. As we gather around bowls, chatting and laughing, it’s slow, unhurried, and often my favorite part of a meal.

For these paintings, I challenged myself to practice restraint (something I rarely do with the actual salsa). After each brushstroke, I paused to see what was there before moving on to the next. The result was textures that remain alive and colors that pulse with expressive energy. I also played with vivid undercoats, letting little glimpses peek through in the final piece. By slowing down, I also found joy in the subtle shifts of color hiding in the shadows.

These tiny canvases are bursting with life, color, and energy. Each one is my love letter to fresh flavors, shared meals, and savoring life one delicious bite at a time.
